The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) assists the General Assembly in promoting cooperation and international economic and social development. It is composed of 54 member states, aims to examine economic and social problems, develop recommendations and propose policies to address these problems, and convene international conferences to present projects, programs, among others. The ECOSOC is responsible for coordinating the work of the fifteen specialized agencies, the ten functional commissions and the five regional commissions of the UN, as well as the non-governmental organizations that are responsible for their functions. As one of the main organs of the UN, the ECOSOC serves with great responsibility regarding economic and social development.
